Māori Culture is an important part of the New Zealand
experience, and you can immerse yourself in this dynamic culture in a
variety of different ways. From the hongi (the pressing of the noses
to signify sharing the breath of life), to the powhiri (traditional
welcome ceremony), the experience will highlight the wonder of our
indigenous culture. Spend the day with a Māori guide walking through
New Zealand’s natural bush and hear the stories and histories of
this spiritual land. Or visit a local marae (tribal meeting place) and
watch as Māori showcase their skills through carving and weaving and
traditional performance art. You could even sample the succulent foods
from a hangi (food prepared in the traditional Māori way). Nau mai,
haere mai (come on over)!
